The Goethals Bridge Replacement Project is a first of its kind in the New York region. The method of procurement chosen by the Port Authority of New York & New Jersey (the Authority) is a Public Private Partnership (P3). A P3 is a financial arrangement between the private sector and a public (government) agency to fund the bridge replacement while the Authority remains the operating entity. In April of 2013, NYNJ Link was awarded a $1.5B contract to design, build, finance, and maintain the new bridge. Kiewit-Weeks-Massman, AJV (KWM) has been selected by NYNJ Link for the design-build portion of the project.
KWM is a joint venture team of industry-leading contractors consisting of Kiewit Infrastructure Co., Weeks Marine, Inc., and Massman Construction Co., who have strategically partnered to execute the design-build contract on the new Goethals Bridge Replacement from Elizabeth, NJ to Staten Island, NY. The KWM partnership has assembled a team of individuals with unparalleled knowledge, expertise, and experience to bring the region a world-class product. Partnered with the internationally renowned Parsons Transportation Group (PTG) as lead design firm, the KWM team will collaborate with the developer, NYNJ Link, and the Authority to design and build two new cable stay bridges to replace the existing single bridge.
